Privacy policy

Abbotsford Connect ("we", "us", "our") is an online local business directory for Abbotsford and Mission, British Columbia. It is operated by FindYou Media (https://findyou.media) and is part of the FindYou.ca directory network, alongside Chilliwack Connect and Abbotsford Connect.

We are responsible for the personal information under our control. Questions, requests and complaints go to abbotsfordconnect@findyou.media or (604) 337-2500.

This policy is written to meet the requirements of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

We only collect what we need to run the directory.

When you join the waitlist: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.

When you register a business: the business name, category, location, address, website, phone and email; the owner's name, email and mobile number; and, if you register on the owner's behalf, your name and email. Once the directory opens, members may also send us logos, photos, brand colours, video links and other listing content.

Automatically: standard server information such as IP address, browser type, referring page and pages viewed. We store a one-way scrambled form of your IP address to stop spam submissions, not the address itself.

We do not collect payment card details on this website. Payments are handled by a third-party payment processor, and we never store your full card number.

• To add you to the launch waitlist and tell you when we open.
• To build, confirm and publish your business listing.
• To contact you about your listing, your account and directory news.
• To run, secure and improve the website.
• To meet our legal and record-keeping obligations, including proof of consent under CASL.

We collect, use and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent, except where the law permits or requires otherwise. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer keep your listing. To withdraw consent, email abbotsfordconnect@findyou.media.

Email. We send commercial emails only to people who have agreed to receive them. Every commercial email identifies Abbotsford Connect, gives a valid way to reach us and includes a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are honoured free of charge within 10 business days.

Text messages. Text message consent is separate, optional and never a condition of purchase. If you tick the text message box and give us a mobile number, you agree to receive text messages from Abbotsford Connect about your listing, your account and launch updates.

• Message frequency varies.
• Message and data rates may apply. We don't charge for messages.
• Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You'll get one confirmation and nothing after.

• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Mobile numbers and text message consent are never sold, rented or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing. Text message opt-in data and consent are not shared with anyone except the messaging providers that deliver messages for us. We keep a record of what you agreed to, and when.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:

• Publicly, in your listing. Business information you give us for publication (name, address, hours, categories, contact details, website, photos) is published in the directory and may be indexed by search engines and AI answer engines. That is the purpose of a directory. Don't send us anything you don't want published.
• Within the FindYou.ca network. Information may be handled by FindYou Media and staff who work across the network's directories, for the purposes in this policy.
• With service providers for hosting, our customer database, email and text delivery, analytics and payments, acting on our instructions and bound to protect the information.
• Where required by law, or to protect our rights, safety or property.

Some service providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States. While outside Canada, information may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under the laws of that country.

The waitlist page sets no advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in, we store a sign-in session in your browser. Once the directory is live we may use privacy-respecting analytics to see which pages and categories are used.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes here, or as the law requires. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Listing information is kept while the listing is active and for a reasonable time afterwards. Consent records are kept as long as needed to show compliance.

We use reasonable physical, organizational and technical safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and limiting access to people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Subject to limited legal exceptions, you can:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you and how it has been used.
• Get a copy of it.
• Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
• Withdraw consent and ask us to stop contacting you.
• Ask us to delete information we no longer need.

Email abbotsfordconnect@findyou.media. We respond to access requests within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm your identity first.

This site is for business owners and adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

We may update this policy as the directory develops. The date at the top shows the current version. We'll email affected members about material changes to how we contact them or use their information.
